The Ebenezer United Methodist Men met Saturday, February 5th at the Fellowship Hall. We had nine men present. Those present were Cliff Kerns, Larry Reynolds, Jim Riggs, Vern Still, John Marx, Dub Boyer, Jon Carr and Dave Carr. The devotional was read from The Upper Room titled “Grace Filled Love”. The scripture reading was Isaiah 43: 1-3.
For breakfast we had eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes and sweet rolls. Cliff Kerns gave the treasurers report. We discussed insulating the fellowship hall. The cost for insulation would be $485.00 and $35.00 per hour for blower rental, minus a $90.00 store credit rebate. Dub Boyer made a motion that we insulate the fellowship hall. John Marx seconded and the motion carried. John Mark made a motion to adjourn. Vern Still seconded, the meeting adjourned at 9:25.

Anna Lee Pike made a motion, seconded by Joyce Pike, to not have a meeting in July because it is such a busy month. The motion carried. Jeanne read from Grace For The Moment “Peace Treaties Of Love”. Joyce had the program. Jeanne will be the hostess of our Aug. meeting at the San Joses Steak House. Roll call will be ” My Favorite Bible Verse”. Cards were sent to Carolyn and Scott Brown, Susie Burk, Billye Hitchings and Sherri McGee.

Jeanne Boyer called the meeting to order, we read the UMW purpose. Jeanne read ” With Loving Care”, written by Sam Karns. The minutes of  the April meeting were read and approved. The treasurers report was given and accepted. There was no old business. Under new business Billie Routh made a motion, seconded by Joyce, for the UMW to purchase a Shop Vac and a heavy duty can opener for the fellowship hall. The motion carried.

Jeanne read ” Grace for the moment with in reach of your prayers”. Anna Lee had the program, She read an article from the Guidepost. Cards were sent to Susan Burke, The Browns, Joe Gawatz, Billye Hitchings and Sherri McGee. Joyce Pike will be the hostess in June. The roll call will be A summer vacation you would like to take or have taken.

We closed with our Benediction Psalms 90/12.

President Jeanne Boyer called the meeting to order. We recited  the purpose of the U.M.W. Anna Lee Pike gave the devotion reading ” Native American Wisdom”. We answered roll call with a ” Spring Memory”. Cards were sent to Susie Burk, Sherri McGee, The Browns, The Kiesers & Billye Hitchings. Billie Routh read the minutes of our March meeting and they were approved as read. The treasurers report was given and accepted.

Under old business, a thank you card was read from Kendalwood Hospice. It was decided that our U.M.W. luncheons will start at 11:30 a.m. instead of  12:00 p.m. Under new business, the U.M. W. will furnish  cookies,brownies,ect.for the womens retreat  Sat. May 8th.

Our roll call for next month will be on “Mother”. Anna Lee Pike will be the hostess at the fellowship hall. La Donne Kieser had the program reading on “My Sweet Mother  & “How Wonderful”. Laraine  Jones from Kendallwood Hospice was our guest speaker. 10 members answered roll call with “An Easter Memory”. We had 1 child present.  

President Jeanne Boyer opened the meeting. We read the U.M.W. purpose. The minutes of our Feb. meeting were read and approved. The treasurers report was given and accepted. La Donne kieser gave the devotion.

Under old business we made $216.00 on our bake sale for the projector project. Barb Barton made a motion to send Kendallwood Hospice a $25.00 donation. It was seconded and carried.

Under new business, we need cookies for the Easter baskets for the Gower nursing home. Pictures were taken of our U.M.W. group. We discussed sending a lap quilt to Kendallwood Hospice. Cards were sent to Leonard and Helen Kieser, the Browns, Sherri Mc Gee, Sharon Wasson, Billye Hitchings, and Juni Ellis.

La Donne Kieser will be the hostess in April. We will meet at San Jose’s Steak House. We will answer roll call at our April meeting with “A spring memory”. In closing Jeanne read “A Godly Touch”. We repeated our Benediction Psalm 90:12.

Under old business we discussed our bake sale for the video projector system for the church. Barbara moved that we have the bake sale Sunday March 21st. It was seconded and passed. No prices will be listed but we will pay what we wish for the items.

Under new business Evelyn reported the Kendlewood Hospice will present the program at our next meeting March 25 th. The meeting will be at the fellowship hall. She also announced that the Easter Lillies would be available from Westlakes again. They will be $6.00.

Rollcall next meeting will be “An Easter Memory”. Barb had the program reading “Cleaver Ideas Worth Knowing” and ” Beware of terroist groups in church”.

President Larry Reynolds opened our business meeting by reading the daily devotional from the upper room titled ” Evergreen Life”. I read the scripture reading for the day from psalm 92:12-15. The minutes of  our feb. meeting were read and approved. Cliff Kerns gave the treasurers report, he reported that we have $908.20 in our treasury.

Under old business Larry reported that he has the 2 steeple lights on order. We discussed in detail how we will install  the steeple lights.

Under new business a motion was made by Ken Pike , and seconded by David Giseburt, to change the date of our spaghetti dinner from sat. march 27th. to sat. april 10 th. at 5:30. The motion carried. A motion was made by Dave Carr, and seconded by Jim Riggs, to adjourn. The neeting adjourned at 9:25 a.m.

The minutes of our Dec. meeting were read and approved. The treasurers report was given and accepted. Evelyn Gawatz had a letter from Kendlewood Hospice asking if we would like to have a person from there to come and talk to us. They are wanting volunteers. Barbara made a motion, seconded by Billye Hitchings to ask them to come and talk to us , at their convenience. The motion carried.

Evelyn also had a call wanting us to serve dinners for the Farm Bureau March 2nd. & Sept.14th. Barbara made a motion, seconded by Anna Lee Pike that we serve the dinners, the motion carried. Jeanne asked if we wanted to have a Bake sale to help fund the projector project? It was discussed and we decided to table it until our Feb. meeting.

Lora Riggs gave a report on the sweatshirt project. She reported that she is about finished with the sweatshirts. Jeanne read an article titled “A hunch and a hope”.

Cards were sent to Sherri McGee, Carolyn Brown, Marge wallace & Susan Burke. Billie Routh had the program, she read “The new year is a banner one” and “Redneck”.

Barbara Barton will be the hostess for our Feb. meeting. Roll call will be My favorite T.V. show. We closed with our benediction Psalm 90/12.

Under old business Ken Pike reported that he is still trying to arrange a meeting with the Lanham Music co. concerning the projector project.

Under new business we discussed several ways that we could heat the handicap ramp at the church. We decided to have our ladies appreciation dinner Sun. Feb. 14 at12:00 p.m. Our annual Spaghetti dinner will be Sat. March 27 th. at 5:30 p.m.

A motion was made by Cliff Kerns and seconded by Ken Pike to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 9:13 a.m.

June called the meeting to order. 8 members answered roll call with “A special christmas gift we received”. The minutes of our Nov. meeting were read and approved. The treasurers report was given and accepted.

There was no old business. Under new business, Jeanne Boyer made a motion, seconded by Billye Hitchings, that we give the youth group $10.00 for their heifer project. The motion carried.

Plates of cookies were made for Corine Karns, Violet Whitson, Melvin Butler, Ray Anderson, The Browns, John Marx’s Father,Abe Early and Susan Burke. Cards were sent to Sherri McGhee and Helen Kieser. Billie Routh volunteered to take care of sending the cards. Billie also had the program reading ‘Through My Window”, from Ideal magazine.

The hostess for our Jan. meeting will be Billie Routh. The roll call will be ” How many new years resolutions you have kept”. We closed with our benediction Psalms 90:12.

The minutes of our Nov. meeting were read and approved. Cliff Kerns gave the treasurers report, he reported that we have $773.20 in our treasury after we donated $1000.00 to the projector fund.

Under old business Larry reported that he had purchased the wire and fittings for the steeple grounding project, everything except the ground rods.

We also talked some more about the steeple lighting project. A motion was made and seconded that we adjourn, the meeting adjourned at 9:20 a.m.

The minutes of our Oct. meeting were read and approved. The treasurers report was given and accepted. Under old business, Evelyn Gawatz sent $20.00 to Second Harvest. Lora Riggs can not find black sweatshirts, So she will purchase navy blue and whatever other color she can find.

Under new business, each lady is asked to bring 2 dozen wrapped cookies to our next meeting, to make plates for the shut ins.

Cards were sent to Carolyn Brown, Sherri McGee, Arline Early and Dub Boyer. June Shipps had the program. Evelyn Gawatz made the new program books for the U.M.W. ladies.We made out the program books. We closed the meeting with our benediction Psalms 90:12.

The minutes of our oct. meeting were read and approved. Cliff Kerns gave the treasurers report. He reported that we have $1728.20 in our treasury after all the steeple project expenses were paid. Cliff also informed us that we had received a donation of $500.00 from the Carleen Moser Memorial Fund. This donation is really appreciated.

Under old business we discussed the video projector project. A motion was made by David Giseburt and seconded by Jim Riggs that we donate $1000.00 towards the purchase of the video projector. The motion carried.

Under new business Larry Reynolds presented information and data on lighting fixtures to light the steeple at the church. These are 39 watt metal halide fixtures at a cost of $1596.00 for 2 fixtures. These fixtures will operate at a cost of about $1.00 a month for both fixtures.We will discuss these  fixtures in more detail at our Dec.meeting. The mens club will meet the 2nd. Sat. in Dec.

A motion was made by David Giseburt and seconded by Dave Carr to  adjourn . The meeting adjourned at 9:25a.m.

June Shipps asked the blessing. Anna Lee Pike had the devotion reading “Purpose of the United Methodist Women”. President June Shipps opened the business meeting. 8 members and 1 visitor answered roll call with ” A baking failure I have had”. We had 1 child present.

The minutes of our Aug. meeting were read and approved. The treasurers report was given and accepted.A world thank offering was taken. We voted to give part of the thank offering to Second Harvest.

Under new business Lora Riggs said that someone suggested that she decorate sweat shirts to sell for a money making project for the club. Billie Routh made a motion , seconded by Anna Lee Pike , for Lora to go ahead and make the shirts, The motion carried.

We had our election of officers, They were as follows, President Jeanne Boyer, Vice President Anna Lee Pike, Secretary Joyce Pike, and Treasurer Evelyn Gawatz. The following members were elected to the nominating committie, La Donne Kieser, Lora Riggs, June Shipps, Billye Hitchings and Phyllis Fisher.

June Shipps read a thank you card from Barbara Barton. Billie Routh had the program reading ” For all of those born prior to 1945″. Cards were sent to Carolyn & Scott Brown, Sherry McGee and Carol Williams.

The Nov. meeting will be at the San Jose Steakhouse. Roll call will be ” A car accident I have been involved in”. We closed with our benediction Psalm 90:12.

The dinner menu will consist of Turkey,Mashed potatoes & gravy,Home made noodles,Green Beans, Salads, Deserts,and Drinks. The cost of the dinner is $8.00 for adults & $3.00 for children, children under 3 years free.

The Auction will include Produce,Home made Items,Craft Items and miscellaneous Items. Keith Williams will be the Auctioneer for this event.

The minutes of  our Sept. meeting were read and approved. Cliff Kerns gave the treasurers report. He reported that we have $1582.99 in our treasurery.

There was no old business to discuss. Under new business we discussed the video Projection project for the church. We will discuss this project in more detail when we have more  information, costs, availability, Ect.

A motion was made by John Marx and seconded by Dave Carr to donate $200.00 to the Pregnancy Resources Clinic, the motion carried.

Vern Still made a motion seconded by John Marx to dedicate the new steeple to the memory of Carleen Moser. This motion also carried. A plaque will be installed for this memorial.

There being no further business a motion was made by John Marx & seconded by Vern Still to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 9:25A.M.
